Melanie Cross
School Gardens Manager
Melanie Cross is a journalist from Santiago, Chile, whose career has been shaped by a deep commitment to human rights—a passion forged during her upbringing under a 17-year dictatorship. Later based in Los Angeles, California, her advocacy evolved into a profound connection with nature, beginning with animals and expanding into the plant kingdom.
With certifications in Documentary Videography and Environmental Studies, coursework in Arboriculture and Botany at UCLA, and advanced training in climate-resilient farming, school garden instruction, and permaculture, Melanie has cultivated a rich expertise in sustainable education.
Her skills have been instrumental in revitalizing Del Norte’s school gardens, where she inspires children to engage with the earth—learning how to grow their own food through hands-on, immersive education. Through her work, the next generation is not only discovering the magic of nature but also gaining essential skills for a healthier and sustainable future.
